Mythic Journeys movie sneak preview May 2 at the Plaza (Atlanta)
The Mythic Imagination Institute invites you to experience an exclusive special preview of MYTHIC JOURNEYS, a fusion of documentary and animation about the power of myth and story to change the world, on Saturday May 2 at 8 p.m. at the Plaza Theatre in Atlanta.
This remarkable film is framed by the classic folk tale "The Bone Orchard," brought to life through stop-motion puppets designed by internationally acclaimed artists Brian and Wendy Froud (THE DARK CRYSTAL, LABYRINTH) and voiced by three of Hollywood's most acclaimed actors:
* Tim Curry is a noble king whose life or death depends on delivering a hanging corpse to a mysterious sorcerer.
* Lance Henriksen is the necromancer who gives him the strange assignment and may or may not be trustworthy.
* Mark Hamill is just your regular dead body come to life with a cutting wit and a Scheherazade-like skill for storytelling and riddles.
In between this imaginative narrative are interviews with some of the world's leading mythologists, psychologists and spiritual leaders including Deepak Chopra, Michael Meade, Michael Beckwith, Sobonfu Some, Tom Blue Wolf and Robert Walter, president of the Joseph Campbell Foundation, as well as Michael Karlin and Honora Foah, co-presidents of the Mythic Imagination Institute.
These people are changing the world. Their stories will inspire you to join them.
In 2006, filmmakers Steve and Whitney Boe attended the MYTHIC JOURNEYS conference and performance festival in Atlanta and found their lives transformed when confronted with the question "Will you know who you are when you die or will death have to tell you?" MYTHIC JOURNEYS, the movie, is their celebration of that extraordinary experience, an exploration of what myth and story can teach us about our own lives and how mythology can be used to spark creativity and bridge generations, communities and cultures.
Immediately following the film will be an exclusive panel discussion with filmmakers Steve and Whitney Boe; Mythic Imagination Institute Co-Presidents Michael Karlin and Honora Foah; William Doty, professor emeritus of humanities and religious studies at the University of Alabama and editor of Mythosphere: A Journal for Image, Myth, and Symbol; and Tom Blue Wolf, founder and director of EarthKeepers & Company, a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating people of all ages on the importance of a sustainable relationship with the earth and each other.
The "Mythic Weekend" continues with a special brunch with the presenters and members of the Mythic Imagination Institute, on Sunday May 3 at 11 a.m. at Manuel's Tavern.
